CRITICAL NEED FOR YOUR PARTICIPATION IN BUDGET HEARINGS

The Assembly will hold one week of Budget Hearings related to the Governor’s May Revise. The hearings will begin on May 18, 2020. The proposed cuts, especially the “trigger cuts” would be devastating to individuals with disabilities, their families, and service providers. We need EVERYONE to participate in the Budget process this year and let the committee know how these proposed cuts will affect you. This week’s Monday Morning Memo has a detailed account of the proposed cuts. Assembly Health and Human Services, Budget Subcommittee 1, will met this Monday, May 18th. As a result of the COVID-19 Pandemic this year’s budget process is different than ever before – we have significantly less time and significantly more challenges in connecting with legislators – so we need an all-out effort in the coming weeks.

This year changes have been made so you can participate in public comment over the telephone. Although we have had packed committee rooms in the past this gives people who could not otherwise make it to the Capitol the opportunity to participate in public comment. This is a YOUR OPPORTUNITY to be heard! PLEASE participate in the hearing and call-in to let the committee members know how the proposed cuts will impact you and your loved ones. As usual, there is a time limit (probably 1 minute) on public comment but you can submit full written comment to the Budget Committee, and they will be included in the public record. Please send your written testimony to: BudgetSub1@asm.ca.gov.

The hearing will be livestreamed on the Assembly website: https://www.assembly.ca.gov
