Contact Your Representatives for the EMPOWER Care Act!

Contact Your Representatives Ahead of the Crucial Deadline This Week for the EMPOWER Care Act!

Ask your Representatives to support and co-sponsor the EMPOWER Care Act (H.R. 5306) and continue the Money Follows the Person (MFP) program this week!

If passed the EMPOWER Care Act will reauthorize funding for the Money Follows the Person program. This program has helped more than 88,000 seniors and people with disabilities move out of nursing homes and institutions.

If no action is taken ahead of Congressional recess which begins at the end of this week EVERY STATE will run out of funds for MFP by December 31st. Seven states are already out of funding and ALL programs will end this month without Congressional action.

Join us in urging our members of Congress to ACT NOWto ensure that people with disabilities are not needlessly stuck in institutional settings!

MFP sets aside funding to cover programs and services not covered by Medicaid/ Medi-Cal which help people with disabilities transition from institutional settings to apartments or group homes within their own communities. Services covered by MFP include housing and employment programs which play a critical role to the success of people with disabilities.

Independent evaluations have proven that MFP improves quality of life for the people it serves. The same evaluations found that MFP has reduced Medicaid and Medicare expenditures by approximately 23%. Unfortunately, states have already stopped transitions to the community and are scaling back their programs, reducing dedicated staff and crucial resources due to lack of funding.

Click here to tell Congress to Pass the EMPOWER Care Act ahead of recess! We must fund MFP and support people with disabilities within our communities.
