The 2019-20 California Legislature has reconvened and we look forward to making some new friends and working on important policies that impact the lives of people with intellectual and developmental disabilities, their families, friends and service providers. Check out the new Legislators listed below and if you are in there district now is a great time to go make some new friends! Let them know what is important to you!

The new names you will see in the California Senate include:

Senator Bob Archuleta was elected to represent Senate District 32 which covers Montebello, Pico Rivera, Hacienda Heights, Downey, Cerritos and surrounding areas. He comes to the legislature with experience as having been a City Council Member and as Mayor in Pico Rivera. Senator Andreas Borgeas was elected to represent Senate District 8 covering Clovis, Fresno, Modesto and Turlock. He comes to the Senate having previously served on the Fresno City Council. Senator Ling Ling Chang is not entirely new to the Legislature since she served a term in the Assembly a few years back. Senator Chang was elected to the Senate in a special election in June of 2018 and serves the 29th Senate District which includes Chino Hills, Yorba Linda, Fullerton, portions of Anaheim and surrounding areas. Senator Maria Elena Durazo was elected to serve California’s 24th Senate District which encompasses much of Los Angeles, East Hollywood, Eagle Rock and East Los Angeles. Senator Durazo comes to the Legislature with experience in community organizing, labor and having served on a multitude of boards and commissions. Senator Shannon Grove was elected to serve California’s 16th Senate District covering Bakersfield to Ridgecrest and down to parts of the Yucca Valley. Senator Grove is no stranger to the California Legislature as she serves and termed out of the Assembly. She is very familiar with issues that impact the disability community. Senator Melissa Hurtado was elected to serve California’s 14th Senate District which includes cities in Fresno, Kern, Kings and Tulare Counties. She comes to the legislature with experience in her community serving as a City Council Member on the Sanger City Council. Senator Susan Rubio was elected to serve California’s 22nd District which covers areas from Monterey Park to Arcadia, Azusa, Covina and City of Industry.
