Dear Friends,
I am writing to ask you to support the individuals, families and staff of The Arc of Maui County during their time of need. The Arc of Maui was hit hard by this devastating fire on August 8, 2023. Two of their adult group homes in Lahaina were evacuated, a day program was forced to close, and their staff has been displaced and suffered great loss in the wake of this unexpected tragedy. Luckily, none of the facilities have been destroyed. However, this has been the island’s most devastating natural disaster in its history, and our friends at The Arc of Maui are not able to return to their homes or programs for an undetermined amount of time.
“We do not know when we will be able to return to regular programs and our homes. We do not know when the electricity will be turned back on. There is concern about toxic air quality, safe drinking water, and blocked road access,” said Aspen, Executive Director of The Arc of Maui County.
Their day program facility is being used as an evacuation site, while staff finds alternative housing for the displaced residents. Their team is working around-the-clock to help meet the needs of the individuals and families they serve.
At this time, The Arc of Maui is most in need of financial donations. You can support them directly by making a donation here: Arc of Maui County – DONATE
I’m confident that if everyone pulls together and makes even a small donation, we can make a big impact on the recovery efforts of our fellow Arc chapter.
Our hearts go out to everyone impacted by this tragic event. We will keep you updated as we learn more. Thank you in advance for your generosity and support! Please share this article on social media, or forward to your friends via email.
With sincere gratitude,
Jordan Lindsey
Executive Director, The Arc of California
