State Senate to Hear IDD Budget Items, Rate Study, 8% Rate Increase & More

The California Senate Budget Committee will hold two important hearings in early May to discuss budget proposals impacting Californians with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Both hearings will be held in room 4203 in the State Capitol, and both will begin in the morning after floor session; however, that time can vary. Likely, items related to developmental services will begin around 11AM – noon on both days. As of now the agendas have not been released, but items included are as follows:

May 2nd
Uniform 14 day holiday schedule;
Half day billing;
Restoration of social recreation and camp services;
DDS restructuring;
Site assessments for HCBS compliance;

May 9th
The rate study presented by the Department of Developmental Services and the complimentary 8% rate increase proposed by Senator Henry Stern and supported by advocates.

We highly encourage attendance from the advocacy community at one or both of the hearings – a large turnout always makes an impression on the legislators and adds importance to the issues. Those unable to attend in person can view the hearings at https://www.senate.ca.gov/calendar.
