The State Assembly Select Committee on Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities, Chaired by Assemblyman Jim Frazier, is holding two important informational hearings throughout the state to listen to the I/DD community and to better understanding the community’s needs. Although formal agendas have not been finalized, Frazier said “We will look closely at the Lanterman Act and what the Legislature can do to help the Regional Centers provide the support and services the I/DD community deserves.”
The dates, times, and locations of the hearings are:
FRESNO, CA
TUESDAY, OCTOBER 16, 2018
5:30 p.m. — 7:30p.m.
Fresno City Hall 2nd Floor, 2600 Fresno Street, Fresno CA
CONCORD, CA
WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 24, 2018
5:30 p.m. – 7:30 p.m.
Concord City Council Chamber
This will be an important opportunity for families, self-advocates, providers, and community leaders to attend and give public comment about the priorities for people with I/DD, including civil rights, affordable housing, employment opportunities, criminal justice reform, and more. The Arc California encourages all members of the I/DD community to try to attend one of the hearings.
Select Committees do not hold hearings on pending legislation; they are informational only. However, ideas for legislation often grow out of Select Committee hearings. Assemblyman Frazier has been an active Chair of the Select Committee and has encouraged his colleagues in the State Legislature to include the I/DD community in their legislative discussions.
