Budget hearings at the State Capitol are getting underway and there will be several hearings in the next few weeks that we will be alerting you to so you can listen and/or give public comment. As you probably saw in the Governor’s January proposed budget, the disability system took a $1 billion hit with the Governor proposing a significant delay in investments to 2025.
We encourage everyone in the disability community to share testimony at the hearings about how these delays in funding will impact you. We know that this funding cut will worsen the acute staffing crisis of Direct Support Professionals, continue to grow waitlists for services, increase Regional Center caseload ratios, and fail to address the serious housing shortage for people with disabilities to name a few ongoing challenges.
The agenda for each hearing can be found on the budget committee websites. The public comment telephone number and access code is also on the website with each hearing. If you can’t attend in person to provide personal testimony, you can call in and participate online.
