Our Sexuality, Our Health: A Disabled Advocate’s Guide to Relationships, Romance, Sexuality and Sexual Health

Our Sexuality, Our Health

Sexual health and education is often overlooked in the disability community. Even for those of us interested in educating ourselves and our loved ones, information about sexual health specific to people with disabilities can be difficult to find. Fortunately, the UCSF Office of Developmental Primary Care has published a fantastic guide, “Our Sexuality, Our Health: A Disabled Advocate’s Guide to Relationships, Romance, Sexuality and Sexual Health” writer by Melissa Crisp-Cooper.

In the guide Crisp-Cooper shares well researched information combined with her own experiences as a woman with a disability. The guide explores a full range of topics from sexuality education, talking to your doctor about sex and family planning, dating, marriage, pregnancy, and finally parenting. The information is shared in a way which is inclusive of all sexual orientations and gender identities.

“Our Sexuality, Our Health” is a wonderful resource for people with disabilities, their loved ones, healthcare professionals, and support professionals. Navigating sexuality and sexual health is difficult for everybody. Arming ourselves with good information makes it much easier to negotiate our own paths through this normal part of the human experience.
