Join Community Forum to Speak Out About Discrimination, Hate and Crime Against People with Disabilities

Greg deGiere, Civil Rights Advocate, The Arc of California

California’s first-ever community forum on discrimination, hate and crime against adults and children with disabilities is set for Thursday, September 26, at 5:30 p.m. in Oakland with statewide access via livestream, webinar and phone.

Public comment is slated for more than half of the scheduled two-hour forum, and the two state agencies sponsoring the forum are prepared extend the time if necessary to hear everyone who wants to speak.

The sponsoring state agencies – the Civil Rights Council and the Commission on the State of Hate – are asking our community for reports on problems we have encountered, including barriers to reporting. They aim to develop specific recommendations to Governor Gavin Newsom and the Legislature, and/or other state and local government agencies.
