The Arc of California is the largest family-founded, driven and led organization in the country for more than 70 years. The pandemic has profoundly impacted the lives of people with developmental disabilities and their families, giving us a good reason for sharing their experiences. The last two years have redefined our lives and our relationship with our community, our service providers, our health care workers, our service coordinators, and especially our family members.
I am very pleased to introduce a new series of personal stories called “We are The Arc Family,” providing us an opportunity to learn, grow and drive our ongoing advocacy efforts. We are kicking-off the series with stories from members of our Board of Directors, who have historically been family members of a child with disabilities and self-advocates.
The Arc of California is a movement, not just an advocacy organization. It is a movement of family members joining forces to protect and promote the rights and independence of our family members with disabilities and to support their full inclusion in the community. We hope these stories will inspire you to share your own story. Please email us with your story, and or comment on previous stories being shared at [email protected]
