IMPORTANT DATES – RALLY & CAPITOL HEARINGS

Senior and Disability Justice Act

As we’ve reported, California’s intellectual and developmental community’s future is in peril and will leave thousands of people at risk unless the state quickly raises wages for the direct support workforce and saves critical services. It will take extraordinary efforts by advocates, families, and organizations throughout the state (that means You!) over the next six months to make sure that our state legislators and the Governor understand this crisis and commit to solving it. Most of that work will happen in your town, meeting with your legislator, and activating your network for advocacy; but there will also be three important events at the State Capitol in Sacramento, and I hope you make every effort to attend and bring lots of people with you:

March 6th (Wednesday) – The Assembly Budget Subcommittee #1 hearing, (Capitol Building, room 4202): At this hearing, the State Assembly budget committee responsible for deciding the amount of funds that will be spent on I/DD services will hear and potentially vote on increasing funds and restoring services, and you will have an opportunity to share your story;

April 3rd (Wednesday) – Rally To Support The I/DD Community!: This rally will be at the Capitol steps and will include a march around the Capitol. Join others from your community and make your voice heard (more information and details are coming);

May 2nd (Thursday) – The Senate Budget Subcommittee #3 hearing (Capitol Building, room 4203): Similar to the Assembly hearing, at this hearing, the State Senate budget committee responsible for deciding the amount of funds that will be spent on I/DD services will hear and potentially vote on increasing funds and restoring services; and you will have an opportunity to share your story.
