Special Olympics International, University Centers in Disabilities and the
American Association of Health and Disability are all working together to support a national effort to raise the level of discussion needed to promote inclusive approached to health care and health promotion for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities. An important part of this effort is crafting Inclusion Principles, Guidelines, and Checklist documents to provide useful information for organizations on how to foster inclusion of people with ID in health-related activities. There are many good resources on inclusive approaches to health care and promotion for people with IDD and an easily accessible compilation of those resources would be a valuable tool for shaping policy.
SOI and its partners are asking you to submit other examples of principles and guidelines, as well as identify supporting resources such as checklists, how-to manuals, websites, and policies that foster inclusion in health-related activities for persons with disabilities, especially intellectual disabilities. They are planning to review resources and identify evidence-based practices that are valuable to the IDD community. The goal is to increase public awareness about the health needs of people with IDD through strategic dissemination of the materials and outreach strategies. If you are interested in submitting materials for consideration please send the title and links to documents to Roberta Carlin at [email protected] by November 20, 2017.
