GRANT ANNOUNCEMENT: Explore Professionals’ Training Needs Around I/DD and Mental Health

The Arc of the Unites States is partnering with the Family Support Research and Training Center (FSRTC) at the University of Illinois at Chicago to organize focus groups. These focus groups will examine the training needs of disability, mental health, and education professionals and the barriers they face when serving people with I/DD and co-occurring mental health challenges.

The Arc is offering $2,500 grants to state and local chapters of The Arc to host a half-day meeting to do the following:

  • Bring together a group of 15-20 people, including mental health, education, and disability professionals
  • Discuss and better understand the training needs and challenges that disability, mental health, and education professionals face when serving people with I/DD and co-occurring mental health challenges and their families
  • Identify key topics and issues that professionals should be trained on regarding serving people with I/DD and mental health challenges (based on information from previous focus groups and from new discussion)
  • Develop recommendations on the best opportunities for training format and delivery across all professionals
