Many of you may have noticed challenges in receiving support from service providers such as:
- Difficulty finding appropriate services for your loved one
- Programs are changed because of money, not client needs
- New programs can’t be developed
- Lack of information about available services in corresponding languages for clients and their circles of support
- Unable to get on-time and reliable transportation
What is going on?
Your services depend on the State paying to provide them. We all should volunteer for the causes we believe in, but employees depend on their wages to live, since this is their job. Valued staff who are underpaid often look elsewhere when the rent goes up, food goes up, and bills come in. California is one of the most expensive places to live in the United States.
The State has not increased their payments to service providers. We need to explain our situation to the politicians and they will understand our message when we gather in numbers. Lots of people mean lots of votes, and politicians need votes. The more people we gather together, the louder our voice is. The louder our voice is, the more politicians listen.
