November is National Family Caregiver Month, a month dedicated to highlighting the need for supports and connection for parents and caregivers so they know they are not alone. They are the heroes who are dedicating their lives to providing love and support for their family member.

We know caregivers need support because you told us so. Nearly 3000 people answered our survey a couple months ago where we asked what’s important to you. Out of all the topics and concerns that were listed in the survey, the respondents indicated that the top concern (45.2%) is caregiver support.

A notable majority (71.09%) of the respondents are caring for individuals over the age of 18, emphasizing the need for robust caregiver support systems. Additionally, primary parents or caregivers, alongside other family members, represent 46.34% of the survey population, underscoring the largest demographic within the survey.

Chart showing 45% of respondents thought the top priority for IDD Community is Support for CaregiversWe listened to you. This week The Arc of California will launch a major statewide initiative to support family caregivers of adults with disabilities. That initiative aims to provide resources and connections so that family caregivers can create a community of strength and sharing. Keep an eye out for the big announcement!
